MacPhail Community Youth Choir records its first CD
The MacPhail Community Youth Choir (MCYC) under the direction of J.D. Steele, is recording its first CD scheduled for release sometime this summer. The CD will have 10 original songs, 2 by the students and 8 by J.D. and Billy Steele.
In only their first year, this group of dynamic young people, in grades 7-12, from all corners of the Twin Cities, has performed at venues such as the Flint Hills International Children’s Festival, singing with Shangilia Youth Choir of Kenya; the MacPhail Music Matters Luncheon; the MCYC Winter Concert in Antonello Hall, which was standing room only; and the Inauguration Ceremony for Gov. Mark Dayton.
The MCYC is free and open to students of all skill levels and abilities. They rehearse every Saturday at the historic Capri Theater in north Minneapolis. Steele said this is a great opportunity for the students to learn music techniques they won’t get anywhere else, covering all genres of music, including jazz, gospel, pop and East African.
