Our faculty are not only exceptional teachers, they’re outstanding musicians, because we believe playing well is an important way to transfer knowledge to a student. Eighty-five percent of our faculty hold masters degrees or higher in music and all are rewarded for ongoing professional development, so our 170 teaching artists are up-to-date on the latest innovations in music learning. There are plenty of “good” teachers out there that can teach you the basics. But there aren’t very many GREAT teachers. The GREAT teachers at MacPhail not only teach the basics, they connect with their students and inspire them to love music. We have teachers for every phase of your musical journey so you’ll never outgrow MacPhail. Our instructors are also experienced, with the support from our music therapists, to adapt or modify lessons for anyone with special needs in all of our programs. • 8 and younger: For babies through 8 year olds we have teachers with degrees in music and Early Childhood education and expertise at building a solid foundation for your beginning musician. • 9-12 years: For school-age kids, our teachers understand the competing demands of sports and other activities and know how to keep this age motivated and committed to their music. • 13-18 years: For the teenage years, MacPhail’s faculty is ideally suited to tap into teens’ growing maturity and help keep them connected to their peers and themselves through music. • Adults: MacPhail is one of the few places in the region with faculty experienced in teaching adults learners.

MacPhail is one of the largest community music schools in the country and is a national leader in many of its program areas. Our Early Childhood Music program is built on 40 plus years of experience and is a national forerunner in the field. Our teachers are all early childhood and music specialists and undergo the most extensive training of any early childhood and music programs in the nation. MacPhail’s Suzuki Talent Program is the oldest in the region and one of the oldest in the nation, giving us the longest history of delivering the unique Suzuki method. The Community Partnership program is one of the largest and most highly-regarded programs of its kind throughout the United States. And our Music Therapy program is one of the largest programs of its kind statewide.
