Free Family Music Series
A family event for music-loving families, as well as for those who want to explore music for the first time! The centerpiece of this series is a live concert. Before and after each concert, the musicians will give free sample lessons to kids and adults on the instruments featured in the concert. MacPhail Early Childhood Music staff will also be on site to engage families in a music-themed art project. Light refreshments will follow the concert.

MacPhail provides numerous opportunities for students to perform. More than 400 recitals are scheduled each year, ranging from informal recitals to auditioned honors recitals.
- Concerto and Aria Concert
This is MacPhail’s premier student performance event and features the finest students performing with an orchestra of professional musicians under the baton of a well-known conductor. Six student soloists or ensembles are selected through competitive auditions.
- Honors Recitals
MacPhail holds four honor recitals per year to celebrate its students demonstrating the highest performance level. Performers are selected through competitive auditions and are honored by formal invitations and a special reception.
- Department Recitals
Each department holds a number of department recitals throughout the school year. These recitals are designed to provide performance opportunities to students in each department and an opportunity for students to interact with and hear other students performing on the same instrument.
- Studio Recitals
Many teachers host recitals for the students in their studio once or twice each year. These recitals are a wonderful opportunity for students to perform with their peers in the same instrument area. It’s also a great chance to get to know some of the other students that study with your teacher. Check with your teacher for dates and times.
- Adult Student Soirees
The Adult Student Soirees are gatherings meant for adult students who want to share and enjoy music in a no-stress, no-pressure performance situation. The soirees are open to adult students of all instruments, ensembles and ability levels. No stage, no program, no pressure -just a room full of friends and good music.
- MacPhail Summer Extravaplazas
The Summer Extravaplazas is a free outdoor lunch hour concert series featuring students from ensembles, camps and individual lessons. Everyone is welcome to bring a picnic lunch while enjoying live music on MacPhail's front yard, also know as Target Plaza. In case of inclement weather, we'll take the music inside.
