Buddy Program

MSA Buddy Program

The Buddy Program is The MacPhail Suzuki Talent Education department and MacPhail Suzuki Association’s vision for a mentoring program between students.
The idea is to connect students of different ages who are established on their instruments and would enjoy working with other kids. Below is an outline of the parameters:

Vision: Long-range impact upon students in program includes higher skills achievement, deeper levels of retention, expansion of program offerings, and community-building.

Who:
• Students from all instrument groups (coordinators w/in each instrument TBD)
• Mentored: Age minimum: 6 years old
Level minimum: Folk Songs are polished
• Mentors: Age minimum: 12 years old (babysitting age/6th-7th grade)
Level minimum: Book 4

How:
• Those interested fill out sign-up cards available in individual studios & inform Beatrice
• Instrument Coordinators pair students
• Pairs meet for one semester or longer
• Annual Buddy Party at MacPhail
• Annual Buddy Recital at MacPhail—casual format
• Students get together at one or the others’ home
Vision includes 20 minutes of practicing, break for snacks provided by
whoever didn’t drive, back to practicing for final 20 minutes.
(the more you do you it, the better it is for you!)
