MacPhail Center for Music Names Kyle Carpenter Chief Executive Officer
August 9, 2011 – MacPhail Center for Music today announced that it has appointed Kyle Carpenter as its new chief executive officer, effective September 1, 2011. Carpenter brings 35 years of business and nonprofit board experience to the organization. He will lead MacPhail’s plans to become the nation’s premier center for music education.

He brings strong leadership capabilities, a proven ability to grow organizations and an unwavering commitment to excellence and service,” said MacPhail board chair, Andrea Kmetz-Sheehy. “Moreover, Kyle’s enthusiasm about music and our mission, give us great confidence in his ability to lead MacPhail into new territory.”
Carpenter previously served as senior vice president for strategy and business development for Capella Education Company. In this role he established the company’s first-ever growth venture, Sophia Learning LLC, a social media teaching and learning website.

I look forward to working with the MacPhail team to spearhead the board’s vision, grow current programs and create new ones – while remaining true to the organization’s core mission.”
Carpenter’s past experiences include serving as president and CEO for Electrosonic Group, a large international digital media company, and three vice president positions with Honeywell.
In the community, he is a former board chair and trustee for Twin Cities Public Television, and a former board member of the Greater Twin Cities United Way. Carpenter also serves as a director for the Harlem Globetrotters and CompView Systems, an audio visual systems and service company.
