Performing is at the heart of learning to play music. MacPhail provides a broad range of opportunities to perform:
- All-school Recitals (Youth, Adult & Popular Styles)
- Adult Student Soirees
- Department Recitals (Keyboard, Strings, Voice, WBP, Guitar)
- Composition Recitals
- Access Site Recitals
The Honors Recitals are distinguished student recitals at MacPhail. There are four per year: three Honors Recitals and one Junior Honors Recital. Students must audition before a panel of faculty judges and be selected as a finalist in order to perform. The judges’ decisions are based on the highest demonstrated musical and artistic merits of the student at the age and ability level he or she is performing. Finalists have their biographies published in a recital booklet for them as a keepsake of their accomplishment.
The MacPhail Concerto & Aria Concert is our premiere performance opportunity for students. MacPhail students of all instruments and ages are eligible to perform before a panel of judges in two rounds of auditions with a movement from a concerto or an aria from an opera. Six students will be selected to perform live on stage with a chamber-sized orchestra comprised of professional musicians – both MacPhail faculty members and guest musicians – in Antonello Hall. We are pleased to welcome back Mischa Santora (Artistic Director of the Spotlight Series) as guest conductor for this event.
MacPhail also offers a staff accompanist for your performance opportunities.
