General Music Instructor

Department: Community Partnerships
Reports to: Director of Community Partnerships
Status: Full or Part-Time
Location: Twin Cities Metro

Job Summary:   This position involves teaching general music in a variety of classroom settings. Hours and schedule may vary. This position also includes faculty administrative duties such as completing paperwork, responsive communication, and attending planning meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach music classes, including but not limited to: choir/vocal ensemble, general music.
  • Help students acquire fundamental music skills, to possibly include singing technique, rhythmic skill building, music literacy, composition.
  • Integrate technology into the curriculum when appropriate.
  • Create, revise, and edit curriculum alone and in collaboration with other teachers.
  • Manage materials and create good teaching environment in the music classroom.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • B.A. or B.S. in Music or Music Education
  • Strong group teaching skills
  • Excellent classroom management
  • Curriculum development and creative lesson planning
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to teaching environments
  • Strong singing skills
  • Computer literate
  • Orff/Kodaly experience a plus
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred:

  • Masters of Arts in Music, Music Education
  • Minnesota State teaching licensure a plus

Suzuki Piano Instructor

Job Title: Piano Instructor
Department: Suzuki Talent Education
Reports to: Director of Suzuki Talent Education
Status: Part-Time with possibility of growing to full time.
Pay Rate: Commensurate with experience
Location: Apple Valley, White Bear Lake MN

Responsibilities:
• Teaching Suzuki private and group instruction in a newly forming program at MacPhail’s new access site. Teaching hours to include daytime, afternoons, evenings and/or Saturdays.
• Schedule, organize and present parent training sessions, studio recitals and group concerts at the Apple Valley and White Bear Lake venue.
• Participate in the promotion and recruiting of families in the new program.
• Possible Saturday group teaching hours available in the existing downtown Suzuki program.
• Perform general faculty responsibilities according to the guidelines listed in the Faculty handbook including: registration paperwork, attendance records and faculty meetings.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
• Master’s Degree in Music with emphasis in Suzuki pedagogy and performance, or the equivalent SAA approved Suzuki teacher training through book 4.
• At least 3 years of Suzuki studio and Suzuki group teaching experience is a plus, but not a requirement.
• Dedication to working in a collaborative professional environment in a first-rate community music school
Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in music
• 2 years studio teaching experience
