INTERIM Early Childhood Music Resource Coordinator

Job Title: Interim Resource Coordinator
Department: Early Childhood Music
Reports to: Director of Early Childhood Music
Status: Part-Time, 20 hours per week
Position Dates: August 18, 2008 – November 14, 2008
Location: Minneapolis with regular travel to White Bear Lake and Apple Valley

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, prepare, and distribute supplies and curriculum for all ECM sites, partnerships, camps, programs and events.
  • Determine ECM faculty needs for supplies, curriculum and clerical support through regular contact with faculty.
  • Set-up supplies and curriculum for all ECM sites.
  • Prepare, copy, and distribute all curriculum and promotional materials, including CD’s.
  • Create, manage and maintain systems for the organization, inventory, and packing of supplies, instruments, curriculum and reference materials.
  • Determine department supply and instrument needs; ordering as necessary within budget and with director approval.  Report expenses against budget on regular basis to director.
  • Prepare, copy and distribute all correspondence and clerical needs for the department including schedules, parent letters, confirmation letters, etc.
  • Travel to AV & WBL sites 1-2 times per month to inventory and deliver supplies.
  • Professional, timely, flexible and customer service oriented response to all faculty requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years customer service and supply management experience preferred
  • Requires solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Knowledge of tracking and inventory systems
  • Strong organizational, time management, problem solving, customer service and communications skills. 
  • Ability to respond flexibly to change
  • Ability to engage in frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting, approx. 15 lbs. and frequent sitting, working at keyboard for up to 2 hrs at a time

Middle School Music Instructor

Job Title: Middle School Music Instructor, percussion emphasis
Department: Community Partnerships
Reports to: Director of Community Partnerships

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching group and individual instruction to beginning students grades 5-8.  Curriculum includes instruction on musical literacy.   Teaching hours to include daytime teaching hours during the week.
  • Flexibility and professional communication as the changes inherent to the nature of Community Partnerships arise.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in music or music education.
  • Classroom teaching experience at the middle school and junior high level.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Percussion background.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Experience collaborating with teachers to create curriculum.
  • Reliable transportation: able and willing to travel to sites.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to changes flexibly.

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in music or music education.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Suzuki private and group instruction in a newly forming program at MacPhail’s new access site. Teaching hours to include daytime, afternoons, evenings and/or Saturdays.
  • Schedule, organize and present parent training sessions, studio recitals and group concerts at the WBL venue.
  • Participate in the promotion and recruiting of families in the new program. 
  • Possible Saturday group teaching hours available in the existing downtown Suzuki program.
  • Perform general faculty responsibilities according to the guidelines listed in the Faculty handbook including: registration paperwork, attendance records and faculty meetings.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Master’s Degree in Music with emphasis in Suzuki  pedagogy and performance, or the equivalent SAA approved Suzuki teacher training through book 4
  • Violin as primary instrument, but capability to teach viola as well is a plus, but not required.
  • At least 3 years of Suzuki studio and Suzuki group teaching experience is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Dedication to working in a collaborative professional environment in a first-rate community music school

The ideal candidate will have:
