Julia Vikesland, Sing Play Learn with MacPhail® Instructor, began as an assistant teacher in August 2012 and is now a lead teacher. She has assisted and taught for classes in Minneapolis, White Bear Lake, and many different community partnerships around the metro. She is passionate about combining her love for children and music in MacPhail’s ECM program. Julia has a degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities where she did her student teaching at the Shirley G. Moore Laboratory School and a minor in music from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.
Julia believes in creating rich, student-centered learning environments that are reflective of the children’s developmental abilities and interests. She draws on her training in the Reggio Emilia approach to Early Childhood Education which emphasizes unique personal expression through the arts and firmly believes in the importance of providing a warm, nurturing environment so that every child feels confident and comfortable to explore their potential. In addition to teaching, Julia is also an active musician, singing primarily at church services around the metro, and has been involved in many theatrical productions as well. She has studied voice privately for nine years and has played the piano for over 20 years. Currently, she is challenging herself to learn guitar and is excited to begin incorporating that into her teaching!
