Jim ten Bensel has been a Minnesota resident most of his life.  This Yamaha trombone artist has a Bachelor and Master degrees in Music Education from the University of Minnesota and has taught vocal and instrumental music at levels from elementary through college.  Presently he is teacher of low brass and jazz combos at MacPhail.  As a performer, Jim has toured with Henry Mancini, Ralph Marteri, and Stan Kenton.  He has traveled with a top show band, has conducted many clinics, and made numerous guest appearances.  Jim is the director of the Minneapolis Trombone Choir, now in its 36th year.  As a classical player Jim was voted "Best Classical Brass" in 1988 by the Minnesota Music Academy Awards, and the same year he was voted "Best Mainstream Jazz Brass Player."  You will hear Jim paying with the Barbary Coast Dixieland Band on their many tours and shows.  He works with Rueben Ristrom, the "Mouldy Figs", "Klezmer and All That Jazz", the Bella Gala Big Band and the George Maurer Group as well as numerous other bands.  Jim has a CD called The Jambone which has been played numerous times on the jazz stations in Minneapolis.  He is also an accomplished vocalist.
