Laurie Merz received her Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music and Master of Music from the University of Minnesota.  Ms. Merz is presently second bassoon in the Minnesota Opera Orchestra and principal bassoon in the Minnesota Sinfonia.  She also freelances in the Twin Cities area, performing with various groups including Music St. Croix, the Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber orchestra.  In addition to performing, Laurie teaches bassoon at Augsburg College, MacPhail Center for Music, and St. Cloud State University, and sells her hand-made bassoon reeds.  Laurie was the 2004 recipient of the Classic Lake Conference Fine Arts Achievement award for her contributions to music education and performance..
