Interested in collaborating with other adult musicians and gaining new insights on your playing? Be a part of the popular Adult Chamber Music Camp. Receive coaching from a variety of MacPhail faculty members and have an opportunity to meet and socialize with musicians who have similar interests. Attend or perform in a master class led by Sam Bergman, violist from the Minnesota Orchestra. All camp attendees will be placed into two chamber ensembles and each ensemble will receive 5 coachings throughout the course of the camp. Chamber groups can opt to perform in a final concert for family and friends followed by a reception. Take your playing to the next level at this intense 5-day piano camp designed for advanced piano students. Study one-on-one and in small groups with MacPhail's teaching artists on both solo and duo repertoire. Participate in master classes and learn from the presenters as well as your peers. Expand your knowledge of piano repertoire through listening and literature classes. Learn about the great performers and be inspired by their artistry. Gain valuable keyboard skills and theory through hands-on classes and duo ensembles. All students will perform in a final concert in MacPhail's Antonello Hall. No audition is required. The Allegro Orchestra Festival is a high-quality, unique and fun summer orchestra experience for student musicians in grades 3-12. Students will be taught by many of the top professional musicians and music teachers in the Twin Cities in daily orchestra rehearsals, small group sectionals, workshops and performances. Through placement auditions, students will be put in one of three orchestras based on their skill level. While students will spend the majority of the camp in inspiring rehearsals and sectionals, they will also have the chance to have fun together outside of rehearsal and enjoy various organized games and activities.

The Allegro Orchestra Festival will conclude with a performance on Thursday, June 30 at 7:00 in MacPhail's Antonello Hall. Each orchestra will perform as well as a mass orchestra featuring all of the students from the camp.

Allegro's new location at FAIR Crystal provides students with excellent rehearsal space and access to outdoor lunch and recreation space. Conveniently located off of Highway 100, families will enjoy the free parking and easy drop-off and pick-up area.

Take a musical journey around the world! In this camp, we will explore the ways that children of different cultures play music and games, tell stories, sing, and move just like us. We will "travel" to destinations such as Africa, Central and South America, Australia, China, Russia, and our own native Minnesota, with opportunities to play ethnic instruments, improvise, dance, dramatize, and create art along the way.
One day of camp is held at the Mill City Museum.

Come to our waterfront to play music, get creative, bake bread and construct books while exploring the theme of "water." Campers will start each day at Mill City Museum and walk with camp leaders less than three blocks to each art organization. Designed for high school students, Clarinet Camp covers topics from clarinet assembly and reed care to history and repertoire. Students will be placed in small ensembles to play clarinet-only repertoire which will be featured in a final performance at the end of the week for family and friends. During small ensemble rehearsals and classes, we'll discuss clarinet specific topics including: how the reeds/mouthpieces/ligatures we choose affect our performance, various styles of clarinet playing, the acoustics and history of the instrument and emergency repair. In addition students will work on general musicianship skills including critical listening and effective strategies for auditions and performances.

Take your creativity to the next level and learn to compose music that enhances your video gaming experience. Even if you've never tried composing before you can learn to manipulate sounds to make the action on your screen come alive. Students will use Propellerheads Reason/Record software in our portable music technology lab to compose music for existing video games as well as create music for their own game concepts and scenes. Any student currently enrolled in band, orchestra or choir is welcome to join this camp, even if you haven't had any composing experience. Family and friends are invited to attend a multi-media performance on the last day of camp.

No self-contained bands are accepted - take what you learn at Rock Week back to your band. Join us for the 2016 Sartory String Quartet Institute! Students at this 9-day Institute are placed in two string quartets with other students of similar age and proficiency. All quartets receive daily coachings in preparation for recital performances at the end of the institute on Thursday, July 14 at 7:00pm and Friday, July 15 at 1:00pm. Students work closely with both faculty and interns throughout the day, as well as participate in classes with guest faculty on topics such as chamber music, rehearsal technique, and improvisation.

Training Prerequisites and Course Order

To take Suzuki teacher training, teachers must be Active members of the SAA.

Every Child Can! (ECC) is required prior to taking Book 1.

Audition Requirement:
To qualify as a participant in Suzuki teacher training courses, applicants must submit a DVD video audition to the SAA, preferably prior to course enrollment. DVDs should be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the course start date, with the required fee and a completed application form. For courses
occurring during the summer, applicants submitting auditions later than March
31 may not receive audition results prior to the course, even if meeting the
above deadlines. If submitted later than 8 weeks before the course start date,
audition results determining participant eligibility may not be available prior to the course, and will require late audition fees.

Take a musical journey around the world as you play percussion instruments from many different countries. You'll explore everything from African djembes to Indian tablas, from Irish frame drums to Cuban bongos, as you learn basic rhythm and ensemble skills in this exciting, interactive adventure. Students will learn and play together in a large ensemble throughout the camp and will perform in a concert for family and friends on the last day. No experience is needed, just young percussion enthusiasts with an aptitude for rhythm!

MacPhail's new Young Artist Program is designed to inspire and motivate any late intermediate to advanced pianist in both the Individual Instruction and Suzuki programs. Through teacher recommendations, selected students will be placed in a level appropriate group to perform monthly for their peers and receive instruction from a MacPhail teaching artist. Monthly classes will also include enrichment activities to enhance students' knowledge of music theory, piano technique, music history, famous pianists, etc.

Students who are interested in participating should speak with their teacher. Teachers must submit a letter of recommendation for their student to be considered for this program.

Monthly classes will be held on Friday evenings at 5:45, 6:45 and Saturdays afternoons at 2:00 and 3:00.

Minimum repertoire requirements: Beethoven Sonata, Op. 49, No. 2, Burgmuller Progressive Studies, Op. 100, Bach Inventions.
