A MacPhail specialist will help boost the skills of a specific section of your choir, wind ensemble, concert band, jazz band or orchestra, in repertoire your students are currently playing. Develop sound, rhythmic precision, general musical understanding, and performance skills for one section of your ensemble using your current repertoire (e.g. tenors, cellos, low brass, etc.).

Motivate your students and build awareness on a topic of your choice in this one-period presentation led by a MacPhail professional. Tap into the vast resources of MacPhail faculty to create a clinic especially suited to your needs and interests (e.g. gospel with J.D. Steele, developing flute vibrato).

Group Lessons: (8 students or less)
Help nurture your students’ success through weekly lessons built on method books, handouts, and sequential practice planning. The MacPhail instructor will consult with you to create ongoing assignments that encourage musicianship and solid playing techniques for a group of students, with focus on one instrument (e.g. clarinets).

Master Class
Inspire the growth of your high-achieving students through public performance. Students will perform specific repertoire, often contest or competition-based, for a MacPhail teaching artist. Audience members can also be inspired by watching and listening to the musical interchange.

Contest/Concert Preparation
Reinforce concepts that you’ve already addressed with your ensemble, and help elevate the level of your students’ performance through another set of ears. These sessions are ideal for upcoming performances for your choir, orchestra, brass/percussion/woodwind or jazz ensembles, jazz combos, etc.

Jazz Improv
Looking for a change of pace? Motivate your students and build their confidence in jazz skills through theory, jazz history, improvisational exercises, and student performances.

Warming Up Your Band
Strengthen what you’ve already communicated to your woodwind and brass players about air, posture, and listening. This distinct session led by clarinet instructor Nina Olsen, will illustrate that small improvements can result in big gains.

Professional Development for Music Educators
Build on your current repertoire knowledge, playing techniques, and performance standards for a particular instrument-family. Customize this session to your interests and questions, including requesting to work with a specific MacPhail teaching artist.

Maintenance/Care/Purchase Recommendations for Band Directors (In-Service)
Save time by receiving up-to-date instrument information that you can share with your students. Choose from trumpet, clarinet, and percussion in-services.
