Adult Harp Ensemble will be the highlight of your week. We'll improve sight-reading, build ensemble skills and perform new music. A fun, social setting to expand your harp horizons all from the comfort of your home!
Learn (or re-learn) easy sight-reading, improvisation to accompany melodies and easy classical and popular songs. Build keyboard skills through note-reading, ear training, playing by ear, improvising, transposing and individual and ensemble playing. Plus, hang out at the keyboard with other adults - like you - who have decided it's finally time to tickle those ivories. Practice time and access to a piano or keyboard are necessary. Students must purchase "Adult Piano Adventures Book I" by Nancy and Randall Faber.

An exciting In-person group experience for intermediate to advanced cellists! We will play a wide variety of 3- and 4-part Baroque, Classical, and modern selections. It is an opportunity to improve reading and ensemble playing skills, as well as connecting with other cellists!
Giving Voice Chorus®
Cost: $75 per screen
This unique and joy-filled choral experience is for people living with Alzheimer's and their caregivers. Sing old and new songs, learn vocal technique and ensemble skills, and share musical memories together. No vocal experience is required, just a love of singing. Each registration requires a partner. Jazz is a uniquely American art form that is treasured around the world. Jazz is spontaneous and fun; it expands the imagination and sharpens the mind. The positive environment of the Jazz Combo is perfect to develop your skills as an improvising musician while working with other musicians of similar skill level. All levels are offered, from true beginners to highly advanced musicians.

Fill your life with music, new friends and fun! Dust off the instrument that you haven't played since high school or learn to play something new. This ensemble is perfect for the developing string musician who wants to play in small ensemble. New Horizons is a yearlong class. Performances will be held in the spring semester. Each semester will feature weekly 60-minute rehearsals, which students can attend in person at MacPhail or live online; as well as online instrument sectionals once a month.

Percussion Ensemble - MPLS (In Person)

Experience the fun of playing multiple percussion instruments in this exciting ensemble. Students will have the opportunity to play snare drum, drum set, timpani, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone and bells in various combinations. In addition to reading music, students will also have the chance to work on their improvisatory skills. Students should have a basic understanding of playing snare drum and ideally keyboard. This ensemble performs twice a semester is open to any student in grades 5-12.

Are you a highly motivated singer? The Prelude Program is a year-long program (September-May) for singers who seek an environment where they can experiment and discover new possibilities as a performing artist. The program includes private coaching, theory, sight-singing, vocal ensemble and performance lab training in movement and gestures. Rimshots! - In Person and Online

This performance-oriented group for highly motivated percussion players is MacPhail's premier percussion ensemble. Rimshots! performs concerts in a variety of settings throughout the community.

Students with special needs now have an opportunity to learn, perform and create music by being an integral part of a music ensemble in a safe and non-threatening environment. Using adapted music therapy techniques, students will create music in a group setting while developing attention span, behavior and social skills.

Attention guitarists, bassists, keyboard players, drummers and singers! How about a no-pressure ensemble to get your jamming skills down? We'll match you up with players of similar age and level who are interested in playing the same kinds of music that you would like to play. Instructors will teach songs through written music and CD's as well as teaching you improvising and songwriting techniques. Rehearsals will be held online and students will work to produce a recording for a final project.

Music can be a powerful and effective tool for the development of social interaction, attention, motor skills, and self expression. This group of 4 to 6 students will focus on adaptive instruction on guitar, piano, vocals, drums, and other instruments in an ensemble/band experience. This group is appropriate for students ages 12 - 18 with special needs. Some previous music experience is recommended.

Singers' Jam - ONLINE

Experience Jazz from blues to bebop. Join other singers in a relaxed, informal online setting. Jazz styles, scat singing, phrasing and improvisation, vocal technique, chart reading and writing will be some of the subjects covered. Students will have the opportunity to record a track for their final project.

Rock Week
Get your music out of the basement and onto the stage! Attend MacPhail's most popular and longest running camp for a week of jammin' with new friends and creating your own original songs. Rock out with other musicians in a band coached by MacPhail faculty, performing both cover songs and original songs. Attend workshops on songwriting, how to rehearse, and an instrument specific class. Perform at an outdoor venue on the final day of the camp.

This camp is for singers, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard players looking to meet new people and have fun playing rock music. No self-contained bands are accepted - take what you learn at Rock Week back to your band. Participants must supply their own drums, guitar, bass, and amps and have had at least one year of lessons on their instrument.

Sartory String Quartet Institute
Join us for the 2021 Sartory String Quartet Institute! Students at this 9-day institute are placed in chamber ensembles with other students of similar age and proficiency. All ensemble receive daily coaching in preparation for a recital performance at the end of the institute. In addition to these small ensembles, students play together in a chamber orchestra and experience what it's like to perform in a larger group without a conductor.
In order to attend the camp, all students must submit a video audition and be accepted into the camp. Please record all three audition requirements (scale, piece and excerpts) in three separate files. Please upload your video as an unlisted video to YouTube and send links of your video to Melissa Falb, falb.melissa@macphail.org, along with your completed student information form (see EXTRA DETAILS for the downloadable form).

String Chamber Camp
Join us for String Chamber and Orchestra Camp, a comprehensive and intensive full-day string camp for middle school and high school students. This camp offers the complete string experience from orchestra, to quartets, to private lessons and more! Rehearse and perform in small ensembles with students of similar skill level. Play exciting music in string orchestra. Round out your experience with private lessons and theory classes. The camp will conclude with an outdoor performance of all ensembles and the string orchestra.
Registration Deadline: June 30
We would like all students to submit a video audition so we can place you in a chamber group. On your video please include a piece of your choice and two scales of your choice. You may record the piece and scales as one file or as two separate files. Please upload your recording to Youtube as an unlisted video and send links of your video/s to Melissa Falb: falb.melissa@macphail.org. Please also include your completed Student Information Form and Teacher Recommendation Form with your video (see EXTRA DETAILS for the downloadable PDF forms). The video and form submission deadline is 5:00 PM on June 30.
Summer Sampler
Give your child the chance to try out an instrument before they begin taking lessons! At MacPhail's Summer Sampler camp, students will be able to select two instruments that they will play throughout the week. We'll have them playing songs on the very first day! Students can select from piano, percussion, ukulele, violin and harp. All instruments will be provided. Students will showcase their new skills at an outdoor performance on the last day of camp.
While camp ends at 3:00 each day, families may opt to pick up their students any time between 3:00-3:30 for no additional cost.
