Course - Minneapolis - Summer 2026
Adult Summer Sound Series: Jazz
Step into the groove and spend a few summer evenings making music with fellow jazz enthusiasts at MacPhail. This four-evening workshop is designed for adult recreational musicians who want to explore the creativity, spontaneity, and collaboration that define jazz.
Over the course of the series, participants will play, listen, and learn together in a supportive ensemble setting. Guided by experienced faculty, you’ll explore a range of jazz styles and repertoire while developing key elements of the genre—improvisation, feel, phrasing, and ensemble interplay. Sessions include group rehearsals, hands-on workshops, and opportunities to dig into the musical language and traditions of jazz.
Whether you’re new to improvisation, returning to music after time away, or currently taking lessons, this workshop offers a welcoming space to build skills and connect with other musicians. The emphasis is on listening, responding, and finding your voice within the music.
The series concludes with an informal performance where participants can share what they’ve been working on with friends, family, and fellow musicians.
Bring your instrument, your curiosity, and your love of jazz—and join us for four evenings of creativity, connection, and great music.
