Course - Minneapolis - Fall 2023
Klezmer Fidl
The soulful music of Ashkenazic Jews strongly favored use of the violin (fidl, in Yiddish) because it could cry, laugh, sing, and imitate the human voice. Known as Klezmer music, it was a vital park of Yiddish culture in Easter Europe for hundreds of years, but nearly died out after the Holocaust.
Luckily it has been revived and today speaks to people of all backgrounds worldwide.
Instructor Judith Eisner will explore its history, style, modes, and repertoire in this class for violinists and violists of intermediate technical proficiency.
16 weeks of 60-minute sessions, starting the week of September 18. Class dates and times to be arranged with teacher.
