Whether it’s opera or music theater, a top 40 hit or art song, vocal songs are written with the intent of conveying a message to the audience. In this week-long workshop, we will use elements developed by Wesley Balk to explore singing and vocal delivery. While you’ll receive coaching on vocal technique, much of the focus will be the use of physical movement and gesture, as well as dramatic preparation and emotional interpretation to deliver a memorable performance that will help convey the meaning of the music through integrated performance practice.
Are you worried your voice isn’t good enough? Concerned that your body doesn’t move the way it once did? Don’t fret! Our instructors are experts in working with older adults and will take into consideration any vocal or physical limitations, and work within your capabilities to help you achieve your best. Through both individual and group instruction singing, you’ll receive feedback from instructors that will help you learn new skills to enhance your delivery. Take your performance to the next level in this fun, engaging class, and leave your audiences spellbound!
What to Expect
Each day offers an opportunity for a variety of experiences including vocal warmups, vocal technique, group ensemble singing and masterclasses as well as movement exercises. Participants are encouraged to bring a solo piece to work on throughout the workshop. In the daily masterclasses, individuals will have the opportunity to present their solo for feedback from instructors and peers in a supportive, empowering environment.
Feeling intimidated about performing solo? There’s plenty to be gained from participating in the group ensemble and observing the masterclasses if you don’t feel comfortable singing alone.
In any case, be prepared for laughter and fun as we push the envelope exploring singing and vocal delivery, preparation and emotional interpretation to deliver a memorable performance that will convey the meaning of the music through integrated performance practice.
