Course - Online - Summer 2021
Opera for Kids Camp – ONLINE – July 26-30
Ages 5-7 years (Parent/Caregiver participation encouraged)
In Opera for Kids Camp, students and their families will learn about the classical tradition of opera and its components, with a focus on W.A. Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Students will learn about key elements needed for the creation of an opera, such as the composer, instrumentation, actors, etiquette, and much more. Through activities such as listening to operatic music, exploring instrumentation, engaging the musical storyline and acting out the story, students will be inspired to create their own prop design and costumes. Daily 30-minute Zoom sessions and digitally shared home assignments will support the learning experience. The camp will culminate with a live reading of The Magic Flute opera for camp participants and their family members shared via a live Zoom session.
Resources needed for the camp include access to internet, email. Zoom, family participation, and lots of creativity.
