Unwrapping Music – ONLINE: Protest Music
Music has always had the power to join people together in a cause – to the point where even powerful governments like our own have banned particular songs out of fear that they will inspire rebellion or revolution. Protest music has long informed people about the need for action against oppression, and has successfully united people to take that action – from the Revolutionary War songs to the union songs of the 1930s; from music of the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s to climate activism and feminist hip hop – we will discuss the way music has been effectively used to make change happen.
