Introducing MacPhail's new leveled jazz combo program, designed to help students improve their improvisation skills and musicianship while playing with students of similar skill level. As students progress, they will be placed in more advanced combos with more advanced players. Combos will perform at MacPhail and various venues throughout the Twin Cities.

Music Plus Discount of 15% if you or anyone in your family is enrolled in individual, Music Therapy, or Suzuki instruction.

Students must audition to be placed in a combo. Combo auditions take place every fall but students can be added to combos in the spring. Combos will rehearse weekly from September-May. Days and times for combo rehearsals will be arranged after auditions. To schedule an audition, contact Christopher Rochester, Jazz Coordinator: Rochester.Christopher@macphail.org

MacPhail welcomes all instrumentalists and vocalists to participate in our jazz combos. Click on the link below for specific audition information for your instrument or voice.

Audition Guidelines

Student Information Form

Auditions can be an intimidating setting for many people. In the new jazz program at MacPhail, we are aiming to create an environment that fosters creativity and personal identity. When preparing for your audition please try to bring forth the best representation of yourself regardless of what you think we'd like to hear. Jazz, rock, pop, etc... Prepare anything that you feel comfortable playing, and show off who you are as an individual!

Greg Byers has decided to perform what he would play, if he were auditioning for a jazz ensemble at MacPhail. Remember all instruments are welcome to audition!
