Taiko ("big drum") drumming originated in post-WWII Japan and provides a joyful mind/body/spirit experience for every participant. Each session will feature small "bites" of cultural learning along with the healthiest ways to incorporate the full-body movements unique to this art form. The only prerequisites are curiosity, openness, and a desire to have fun, move and make music as a community! All cognitive and physical capacities are welcome and embraced.
A special note: the morning session is dementia-friendly!
*Participants will use household items to craft their own drum while bachi (drumsticks) will be provided and are included in the cost of the class. Check out the videos below for taiko suggestions along with an informal tour of instructor Iris's home studio.
