The Free Family Music Series is a series of free events for music-loving families and those who want to explore music for the first time! The centerpiece of this series is a live concert. Before and after each concert, the musicians will give free sample lessons to kids and adults on the instruments featured in the concert. Sing Play Learn with MacPhail® staff will also be on-site to engage families in a music-themed art project. Light refreshments will follow the concert.

Sing, Play, Learn! with MacPhail® presents its first Sensory Friendly concert for children of all abilities, including those on the autism spectrum and with sensory sensitivities. As part of the Free Family Music Series, this program will include:

  • Sensory-Friendly concert featuring the Chione Woodwind Quintet – 10:15 a.m.
  • Instrument exploration – 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • Complementary snacks
  • Instrument making activity
  • Sensory room – available throughout the concert

Event will run from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Chione will share the musical story of Pāka’a Lanakila, a little boy living in Hawaii, composed by Hawaiian resident Jon Magnussen. The ensemble will engage children by intertwining musical learning, storytelling and American Sign Language. Participants will use these signs to interact with the music throughout the piece as they listen for and identify each theme with the appropriate signs in context. This 45-minute storytime program can be enjoyed by all ages, from babies to children at heart.
