Crystal Hall


Oboe instructor Crystal Hall began teaching at MacPhail in 2014. She has worked with students of all ages and at all stages of musical development, from beginner to professional, and fourth grade to adult. Her approach to teaching is to help students set their own musical goals and then achieve them. She strives to help students make beautiful music.

Her teaching history includes the Mount Olivet School of Music, Carthage College, Music Institute of Chicago, Lagrange Conservatory, and various school districts in Illinois and Minnesota.

Currently, Crystal is a regular substitute with the Minnesota Orchestra. Previously, she was a regular member of Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Fifth House Ensemble (as an oboist and director of education), the Rockford Symphony (as 2nd oboe/English horn), and was a regular substitute with the South Bend Symphony, Elgin Symphony, Illinois Philharmonic, Chicago Philharmonic, and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. She also made Florida West Coast Symphony and Louisiana Philharmonic.

She holds a Bachelors of Music from Oberlin Conservatory, and a Masters of Music from the University of Texas—Austin.
