Birrow, David

Percussion, Drum Set

David Birrow joined the MacPhail faculty as a percussion and drum set instructor in 2008. He is interested in how music cognition research, technology, and game design can help shape music learning. My goal is to create well-rounded musicians who play percussion.

He toured South America and Europe with YOA – Orchestra of the Americas as an orchestral percussionist. He was a commissioned composer for new percussion ensemble works with Struck Percussion Ensemble. David has presented at the Midwest Conference, the N.A.F.M.E. In-Service Convention, and Minnesota State Educators Association. He wrote The Bucket Book on bucket drumming, which was released by Alfred Publishing in 2014. He has recorded the Verdi Requiem with Maestro Placido Domingo conducting.

He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with a Major in Music Education at Frost School of Music, University of Miami, and a Master’s of Music: Instrumental Performance – Percussion from University of Minnesota.
