MacPhail Music For Life™

Deb McTaggart is a Board Certified Music Therapist with a Master’s Degree in Gerontology, and has focused her career on music interventions for persons with dementia. She began as a Teaching Artist at MacPhail in 2014 working with the Giving Voice Chorus (GVC), a ground-breaking and award winning vocal ensemble comprised of persons with dementia, their care partners and volunteers. She is the accompanist for two Giving Voice Choruses in Minneapolis and one in St. Paul. In addition to her involvement with GVC, she also provides MacPhail Music For Life™ programming for numerous elder care partnership communities. Deb graduated from Bemidji State University with a BA in music and completed the Music Therapy Equivalency Program through Augsburg College. She earned her Master’s Degree from Bethel University. She served as the Music Therapist at Johanna Shores (Presbyterian Home of Arden Hills) for nine years. Prior to pursuing a career in Music Therapy, Deb was a private piano instructor. She is a former accompanist for the Twin Cities women’s chorus, LeagueAires, and since 2008 has been a member of the Bemidji State University Alumni Choir.

Favorite non-musical hobby: Counted cross stitch, embroidery
