Ericksen, ElizabethViola, Violin
Elizabeth Ericksen, violin and viola instructor, has been at MacPhail since 1978. She also teaches at Carleton College and coaches chamber music for the Augsburg Suzuki Program. A gifted instructor for more than 25 years, Elizabeth enjoys working with students ages 7 through high school; and serious post-high school students. Her goal is to help her students reach their potential in violin or viola, and help them develop freedom and control of their technique. Elizabeth believes it is also important to give her students opportunities for performance and evaluation.
Elizabeth was a founding member of the Sartory String Quartet and has been a regular orchestral member of VocalEssence, where she participated in a wide variety of programs and several award-winning recordings. In the summers, she coaches for the Sartory String Quartet Institute (sponsored by MacPhail). She is a member of MNSOTA, the Minnesota chapter of the American String Teacher’s Association; and has served as its secretary, coordinated the Mary West State Solo Competition, and contributed a number of articles to String Notes, MNSOTA’s journal.
She holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Music degrees from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana where she studied with Paul Rolland. The Sartory String Quartet was coached by Joseph Gingold and Arnold Skernick.
