Hass, Rebecca

Piano, Theory

Rebecca Hass, piano instructor, has been at MacPhail since 2006, previously as an accompanist for the Suzuki department and the Prelude Singer-Actor Performance Lab, and now as an instructor of individual lessons. She also has run her own private studio for the last 15 years. Rebecca teaches students of all ages and abilities, taking a student-centered approach that is fun and also motivating for students. She emphasizes creativity – a mix of reading music and improvisation, and teaches composition even to very young students.

Rebecca is also an active freelance accompanist in multiple genres, including classical performers, musical theater classes, and performing at numerous weddings and events.

Rebecca’s interests extend to many types of music, including jazz, classical, and pop, but her biggest passion is Brazilian music. She plays in the local Brazilian percussion group Batucada do Norte, and is a founding member of the Modern Spark Trio, a piano trio with diverse repertoire. She also enjoys composing and arranging for herself and her students.

Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano with a concentration in art history and anthropology from Ithaca College and is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through MTNA.
