Rebeccah Parker Downs joined the MacPhail cello faculty in 2016, teaching in School Partnerships and Suzuki departments. Rebeccah has previously taught at Brooklyn College, Port Jefferson Music Academy, Wyoming Center, Cincinnati Music Academy, Converse College, and continues to teach at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in the summers.
Rebeccah is Suzuki trained instructor who focuses on the needs of individual students in order to help them pursue excellence in a rewarding environment. She loves working with all ages, young children to older adults.
Rebeccah stays active as a professional chamber musician, orchestral musician, and teacher. She has performed concerti with several orchestras around the country, performing the Lalo Cello Concerto, the Elgar Cello Concerto, and the Faure Elegie. She has been the principal cellist of Springfield Symphony and CCM Philharmonia, section cellist for Kentucky Symphony, Middletown Symphony, Lebanon Symphony, and Richmond Symphony. She has performed across the United States and Europe with her husband, Benjamin Downs, an accomplished pianist.
She has an Master’s of Music and Artist Diploma from the University of Cincinnati and she completed her long term Suzuki cello training with Pamela Devenport at School for Strings in New York City.
