Waterman, SandySing Play Learn with MacPhail®
Sandra (Sandy) Waterman has many roles at MacPhail, bringing to each position high energy and enthusiasm. And no place is this more important than her position as Sing Play Learn with MacPhail® teacher. Receiving her Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Minnesota with certification to teach K-12 vocal/general music in Minnesota, Sandy encourages her young students to immerse themselves into the fun of learning. She also teaches in the Community Partnership Program, and piano in the Suzuki Talent Education program.
Sandy’s ability to reach all these various levels of students makes her a valuable instructor at MacPhail since 1996. She evaluates each student’s unique learning style so she can be most effective with that student. With teens and adults, she thinks respect for that person’s life experiences go a long way toward building trust and a positive rapport.
Outside of teaching, Sandy is a composer of children’s musicals and writes and directs at Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul, since 1990. She also did a three-year stint as improvisational pianist for Brave New Workshop, including out of town engagements performing for Charles Schwab in San Francisco; and working as a musician for area churches, which has allowed her to collaborate with many different musicians, and to present a multicultural world-view of music for listeners. Sandy has also served as keyboardist for the three-woman jazz combo, Elbow Room. And like any good musician, says ‘any good music jam is also an ongoing joy!”
