Jonathan Tauscheck has been teaching piano at MacPhail since 2016. He holds 15 years of experience, having served as professor of Applied/Class Piano at Kirkwood Community College and Marion Academy of Music (Cedar Rapids, IA). He teaches all styles, pre-Baroque to Contemporary.
Jonathan believes that the role of teacher is to create a comfortable relationship with the pupil, balancing facets of music and providing an enjoyable environment. The experience should hone technical and pedagogical skills and should convey proper posture, weight distribution through the body, and finger technique.
Jonathan served as pianist for TCR, Revival Community Theater (Cedar Rapids), Old Capitol Opera (Iowa City), University of Iowa, and many other productions throughout Iowa. He was accompanist at Kirkwood, and two church congregations in Iowa. He accompanied auditions at Liederkranz in NYC. He has composed works that include collaborations with vocalists, ensembles, and dancers. He has performed as soloist all over Eastern Iowa and the Twin Cities area, including MacPhail Center’s Antonello Hall. He participated in the Franz Liszt festival and Old Capitol Piano Sundays in Iowa City.
Jonathan earned a Bachelor’s of Music and Master’s of Music at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities. He was awarded a performance scholarship from the University in 1997. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Iowa.
