Richardson, Teresa


Teresa Richardson has been a MacPhail cello instructor since 2006. Suzuki principles are at the core of Teresa’s teaching philosophy. She starts students at age 5-7, and emphasizes parent involvement, listening, review, and daily practice. Students are required to participate in ensembles, take summer lessons, and play in two recitals annually. She believes the philosophy Every Child Can!

Teresa currently teaches at MacPhail and at North Star Cello Academy in Roseville. She has taught at University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire, St. Joseph’s School of Music, and St. Paul Conservatory. Teresa is Assistant Principal Cellist with the Minnesota Opera and has performed in many orchestras, including the Minnesota Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, National Repertory Orchestra, Mill City Summer Opera, and Duluth Superior Symphony. She appeared as soloist with orchestra performing concertos by Boccherini, Elgar, Haydn, Saint-Saens and Vivaldi.

Teresa earned Master’s of Music and Bachelor’s of Music degrees in Cello Performance from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where she graduated with high distinction.
