Meet Our Voice Faculty

Teacher playing a piano while a student sings

Singing at the Metropolitan Opera and having a 40-year international operatic career was not supposed to happen to an Iowa farm boy. People told me it wasn’t possible, but I didn’t listen. I now can encourage others to follow their dreams or explore their passions through singing. The perfect vocal music for me is inspired by the word. The text sets up the rhythm and the melody, and harmony reinforce the emotions. Together they make the perfect atmosphere to tell a story. Helping people find and tell their stories through singing is why I teach at MacPhail.
