MNYO LogoMacPhail Northside Youth Orchestra (MNYO) is a full orchestra program for enthusiastic students in grades 7 -12 that rehearses on Saturday afternoons in north Minneapolis. MNYO strengthens students’ playing skills through group rehearsals and sectionals. Students also get to develop their musicianship through other activities like bucket drumming and have many exciting performance opportunities.

Students in grades 7 – 12 that have at least one-year playing experience playing an instrument in the following musical families: brass, woodwinds, strings, or percussion, are encouraged to join!

  • Students have 1-year experience playing their instrument (private lessons or school band program)
  • Student is in grades 7 – 12 during the 2017-18 academic year
  • Student plays an instrument in one of the following musical families: brass, woodwinds, strings, or percussion

Students applying to MNYO will be asked to audition. Students should prepare a scale and short piece to play for the audition.
Your child’s audition should take 30 minutes or less from start to finish.

Don’t let the audition intimidate you, we use the audition as a chance to meet with our students and create placements in our orchestra.

Have a question on how the audition process works? Let us know!

Contact Sarah Krefting,

Bring your completed application to the audition on September 30. Additional paper applications will be available at the audition.
