Crescendo, Italian for "growing," encourages and promotes students' growth at all stages of musical development. The program aims to develop well-rounded musicians, reward students' progress and set benchmarks for the advancement of musical skills.
Crescendo for Piano Summer Sessions is a shortened version of the Crescendo for Piano program which runs through the academic year. It provides enrichment for your individual lessons, gives you motivation and goals to work towards, and guides you through the Crescendo piano curriculum level by level.
This summer, we are giving our previous Crescendo for Piano students — as well as students new to Crescendo — an opportunity to continue their journey of musical growth by adding a play-a-thon, a final jury, and six music labs.
Music lab students will be split into Zoom groups depending on their level and age. They will have fun, interactive educational sessions on music history and theory, practice strategies, solving technical problems and meetings with professional musicians. These hourly classes will be led by teachers of MacPhail faculty.
Play-a-thons are casual performance opportunities for Crescendo students to try their pieces and get feedback from other instructors. Performances are interspersed with short musical quizzes and stories facilitated by the host of the event.
The final event of the Summer Crescendo for Piano session is a jury. By participating in the Summer Crescendo for Piano session, students who are actively practicing and studying new pieces will be able to demonstrate their progress at this jury and will not have to wait for the following one in January.
