In the MacPhail Brass Consort, students challenge one another throughout the term to form the best ensemble possible. Under the guidance of low brass instructor Karl Wiederwohl, students assess their strengths and weaknesses, consider how they affect their colleagues, and ultimately determine the quality of the ensemble’s musical product. Dr. Wiederwohl fosters an environment where players can enjoy the thrill of achieving excellence while also learning to tactfully discuss when improvements need to be made. While the ensemble is open to brass students of any age, there is a standard of mature musicianship that must be met.
