Jacob Dodd began teaching piano in MacPhail’s School Partnership program in 2017. He has four years of teaching experience in private piano instruction and two years of group piano instruction.
Jacob makes sure to meet his students where they are. Curiosity and eagerness is highly encouraged in his lessons. Although he is traditionally trained, he gives students a well-rounded perspective on music through piano and exploring varying styles of music.
He received first place in the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges/Universities) Piano Competition at Tennessee State University in 2012. He was awarded first place in the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Junior/Senior Solo Competition held at Belhaven University in 2013. Jacob is involved in professional gospel recordings such as the Minnesota State Baptist Convention Choir “We Are Better Together” Project. He is the Keyboardist for City Pages’ Best New Artist, Thomas Abban.
He holds a Bachelors in Music in Piano Performance from Jackson State University.
