Prelude’s Tribute to Stephen Sondheim

Date: Sat May 21 2022

Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Room: Antonello Hall

Location: Minneapolis

Prelude will honor the artistry of Stephen Sondheim (1930-2021) with a concert of duets, trios and ensembles spanning six decades of Broadway. Beginning as the twenty-something-year-old lyricist for West Side Story and Gypsy, then the composer and lyricist of over a dozen ground-breaking Broadway musicals (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Little Night Music, Sunday in the Park With George, Into the Woods) that won eight Tony Awards, eight Grammys, an Oscar and the Pulitzer Prize.

Prelude students will perform selections that highlight his particular genius for lyrics and music that dig deeper and more honestly into his characters–moving, hilarious, and ultimately beautiful songs about what it means to be human.
