
Alexandra Sapan
Alexandra Sapan has been teaching voice in MacPhail’s Individual Instruction department since 2017. Prior to MacPhail, Alexandra was an Adjunct Professor of Voice at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and has maintained private vocal studios in New York, Cedar Rapids and Minneapolis since 2009.
Alexandra believes the singing voice is a powerful mode of communicating, and applies healthy vocal technical concepts to all of the styles of music that she teaches, from opera to musical theatre and pop genres. Musical study has a healing and grounding power in life and she enjoys teaching all ages and levels of students from the complete beginner to the advanced singers, igniting their own creativity and passions for the art form. Her students have won numerous competitions regionally and internationally, and have been accepted into prestigious college vocal and acting programs from New York to Los Angeles and can be seen on many local stages around Minneapolis and The Midwest.
Her notable performances include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at Orlando Opera and The Beijing Music Festival, Zerlina in Don Giovanni at Taconic Opera, Mdms. Silberklang in The Impresario at Opera Florham, Papagena from Die Zauberflöte at Macau International Music Festival, Amina from Bellini’s La sonnambula at Calvià Opera in Mallorca and scenes from La Traviata and Don Giovanni at Opera Hong Kong’s Inauguration Gala. In 2004, she debuted at Carnegie Hall with pianist Maestra Enza Ferrari after winning first place in the Classical Productions Competition. She was the first place winner in the Heinz Rehfuss Singing Actor Awards at Orlando Opera and a scholarship recipient from The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, The Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship Fund, and participated in The Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna. Alexandra continues to perform locally in concerts for faculty recitals, various church services and retirement community concerts throughout Minneapolis.
Alexandra recently collaborated on performances in Minneapolis and Greece featuring a recording of Three Greek Songs, composed by her husband Dr. Jonathan Tauscheck as a sponsored project from The McKnight Foundation Teaching Artist Grant in Minnesota in 2022. Our music video received First Prize in the Professional division of the Vivaldi International Music Competition also capturing the Beeffie Creative Musical Artists Award for “Belief and Effort” and was recently a selected semi-finalist for the Cannes World Film Festival in 2025.
Alexandra received her Master of Music Degree from Manhattan School of Music in Vocal Performance, Bachelor of Music from Wheaton Conservatory of Music, with extended studies in Italy at the Ezio Pinza Council for American Singers of Opera, The International Institute of Vocal Arts in Italy, and Aspen Music Festival.
Favorite non-musical hobby: I play singles and doubles tennis in a local USTA league in Minnesota.
