Sing Play Learn with MacPhail®, Flute

Erica Bennett was thrilled to join the Sing Play Learn with MacPhail® faculty at the start of 2012. She loves being able to combine her musical background with her experience working with young children as she begins her journey at MacPhail. Teaching music to children energizes, inspires, and pushes Erica to grow creatively. She looks forward to learning and teaching more at MacPhail.

A dedicated and enthusiastic flutist and teacher, Erica has taught flute lessons since 2001 at studios and schools in the Twin Cities area. She currently teaches privately in Eden Prairie and her home in Minneapolis. She has served as flute instructor for the St. Olaf College summer music program and was an evaluator of MMTA flute exams for several years. She also plays principal flute with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in Minneapolis, and is a member of a frequently-performing woodwind quintet, Pavia Winds.

Erica holds a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, and a Bachelor of Music Performance from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. She also earned a Lead Teacher certification from Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, CO, and works with infants at a child development center in Edina. Erica is also a certified yoga instructor.

“She does an excellent job of teaching the students not only about music, but also about sharing, taking turns, and being inclusive. She always ensures that each student is included in all activities – she remembers all of the toddler’s names and gives attention and encouragement to each individual toddler.”

“Erica is a wonderful teacher. She keeps the pace of the class just right to maintain the attention of the 2-3 year olds. They love her!”
