Jon Iverson, piano instructor at MacPhail since 2006, tailors his teaching of musical style and genre to a student’s learning ability, regardless of age or ability. He is able to start beginners, polish intermediate level students and prepare high school students for contests and college auditions. Jon has been teaching for 14 plus years.
He also performs regularly as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician around the Twin Cities area and has been heard with local Minnesota orchestras. Jon’s talents also extend to composing. His String Quartet No. 01 was featured on “Essays of Note,” a syndicated Minnesota radio show. His Overture to an Unwritten Tragedy was premiered under the baton of Dr. Matthew George and his Prelude, Passacaglia and Recitative for solo violin and In Memoriam for solo viola have been taken on tour throughout Europe with English violinist Peter Sheppard Skærved.
Jon completed his Master of Music in piano performance and pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, Princeton, New Jersey, and his undergraduate work at the University of St. Thomas.
“He discerns what it is that I need to study/learn while remaining very sensitive to my interests/needs. He is good at making the “music beneath the music” come alive.”
