Karen Moon

Karen Moon, violin and viola instructor and chair of the Strings Department, joined the faculty in 1994. She loves teaching students of all ages, 5-95, who possess a passion for music and the desire to learn.  In addition to private lessons, she teaches string students from the Ascension School (in partnership with MacPhail) and Musical Trolley in the Sing Play Learn with MacPhail™ program.

She created and directed the string program at the City of Lakes Waldorf School from 2002–2008, working with students in grades 3–8.  During the summer months she coaches and coordinates chamber music for String Academy and String Chamber Camp at MacPhail and the Upper Midwest String and Chamber Music Conference held at the College of Saint Benedict.

Karen enjoys an active performing schedule as well as teaching. She has played in the violin section of the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra since 1993. She founded, manages and performs with Quartet Spiritoso since 1990. In addition to playing classically with various chamber ensembles in the Twin Cities, Karen enjoys exploring eclectic musical styles, such as jazz, blues and fiddle.

She holds a Bachelor of Music from Augsburg College.
