Suzuki Piano Group Coordinator


Susan Sophocleus has been a member of MacPhail’s Suzuki piano faculty since 2009. Susan teaches Suzuki students ages 4 to 18 and follows the principals of the Suzuki method. She has a toolbox full of ideas for tailoring the lesson to the individual student, and works to create a joyful path of learning while maintaining high standards of playing.

Previously teaching out of her home studio, she also was choir teacher at City of Lakes Waldorf School in Minneapolis. Susan has completed Suzuki training with Caroline Fraser, Doris Koppelman, Rita Hauck and Rick Mooney. She performs as an accompanist at MacPhail and enjoys collaborating with other musicians. Susan is the administrator of the MacPhail Suzuki group piano program with over 300 students. She developed the curriculum for Book 1 students. Susan is a member of Minnesota Music Teachers Association, the Suzuki Piano Teacher’s Guild,  and the Suzuki Association.

She holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Illinois, a Masters Certificate in Kodaly from the University of St. Thomas and an MBA in Marketing from Indiana University.
