Garden of the Righteous Documentary
MacPhail Center for Music, in partnership with the East Side Freedom Library and Heyde Center for the Arts and Mabel Tainter Memorial Theater in conjunction with Unitarian Society of Menomonie, Wisconsin, will host a virtual screening of Garden of the Righteous.
The documentary program is presented by Naye Strunes, a Minneapolis-based Yiddish music ensemble. The project is created and composed by MacPhail teaching artist Judith (Gitl) Eisner. Naye Strunes is comprised of Gitl Eisner, violinist; Gretta Hunstiger on fidl (violin); Beth Albertson on cello; and Diane Benjamin and Stu Janis on tsimbl (hammered dulcimer). The program weaves together original Yiddish music and stories of the Righteous Among the Nations, the fearless individuals from among the thousands of non-Jews who risked their lives to save innocent people during the Holocaust.
This program was supported in part by a MacPhail Artist Grant.
